It is a unique time to be a woman. There are many worldwide movements supporting equality of the sexes, empowerment for young women, and the uprooting of systemic beliefs and practices that perpetuate violence against women. Sometimes it can be hard to find a guiding light, or wisdom to keep us going as we rise up together with our sisters. That is why I have put together a collection of my favorite powerful women quotes that will remind us of the wisdom women already hold inside of us and how to tap into that source of inspiration.

Living with Kindness

The impact you leave on this Earth will not be about what you did, but more about how you did it. If you race your way to the top of an organization, and belittle others along the way, *if* you will be remembered, it will be for your cruelty. However, if you take the time to be present with as many people as possible, care for others, spread your generosity, when people think of you, their hearts will warm with gratitude for your spirit.

Whether she knew it at the time or not, Oprah’s quote is backed by scientific research. Researchers have found through studying Neuroplasticity that when we have a recurring thought, it creates a groove in our brain that makes it easier to have that same thought again. When that happens, we start to believe our thoughts and we adjust our behavior accordingly. So, if we dwell on the thought, “I am no good, no one likes me”. We will behave in a way that matches that belief. However, we can hack this process through planting good thoughts in our mind to dwell on as affirmations. It is time that we stopped apologizing for who we are as women so that others can feel comfortable. Almost all of the societies that we live in have been set up by and for the patriarchy to exist and flourish and they don’t account for the ways of the feminine. It is time that we as women demand that we be respected and that culture adapts to reflect our equality.

If we learn to stop apologizing for who we are and what we want, we will break the barriers that have been in place for so long. It is up to us to change the narrative for women. There is no one in charge of “allowing” us to do it. So, while many may try to stop us, we must take the power in our own hands. Hand in hand, let’s march forward together with equality for all at the front of our minds.

Fear can be a powerful motivator, but look back at your life and notice the results of the decisions you made out of fear vs the ones you made out of love. We must focus on hope and possibility as we look to the future!

There are many ways we have been “socialized” into believing what it is like to be a ‘lady’. To be pleasant, not too boisterous, accommodating, and with good manners. This way of being doesn’t account for the wide range of emotions and experiences a woman could have. Therefore, part of the process of coming into your own strength and power, is to unlearn the ways of being that are holding you back from being courageous.

One of the most important lessons for any woman to learn is this one. The more we seek for peace and happiness outside ourselves, the more we see that there is no sustainable source outside ourselves. However if we look within, through meditation and practices that reconnect us with ourselves, we can find that wellspring of peace that is deep, pure and infinite. If we can connect to this source, it will fill us with the strength we need to heal the world.
